Biographical history

Jacob Davies ('Alaw Cowyn', 1888-1973) came from Blaen-y-coed, Cynwyl Elfed, Carmarthenshire. He worked as a blacksmith at Felinfach Forge, Blaen-y-coed. He was a poet and composer, and author of Atgofion Bro Elfed (1966) and Hanes Pedair Ysgol (1975). He collected papers relating to the history of Congregational chapels in the Trelech area of Carmarthenshire, including the Gymanfa Ganu (hymn-singing festivals), and Pabell Blodau'r Grug (a branch of the Independent Order of Rechabites temperance movement) in Pen-y-bont, Trelech, Carmarthenshire.

Account books, 1883-1940, of Jacob Davies and his predecessor at Felinfach Forge, Blaen-y-coed, Cynwyl Elfed; a volume containing a history of Blaen-y-Coed Congregational church, 1895-1953; notebook containing miscellaneous accounts, 1910-1952, including wage accounts at Plasyrhendy, Boncath; memoranda and accounts, 1928-1945, relating to the Gymanfa Ganu of the Congregational chapels in the Trelech area of Carmarthenshire; minute book, 1912-1914, of 'Pabell Blodau'r Grug'; and musical and poetical compositions.
