History

The University Board for Training Colleges met for the first time in June 1929 under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor of the University. Membership of the Board comprised the Principals of each Welsh training college; persons appointed by the Governing Body of each of the training colleges; and persons appointed by the University's Council and Academic Board. The Board's duties included co-ordinating and approving schemes and syllabus of study submitted by the training colleges; appointment and duties of external examiners; making arrangements for the examination of students for the Teachers Certificate; and establishing Central Boards of Studies (to consider such matters as syllabuses submitted by the training colleges) and Local Advisory Boards (to report on such matters referred to it by one of the Central Boards). The Board reported through the University Council and the Academic Board to the University Court. It was replaced in 1949 by the University Education Board and the University Faculty of Education, though examination syllabus were still issued under its name until 1950.
